The fund is available to spend on events for adults or young people who are working to improve their literacy and numeracy skills, either in 1:1 or group tuition or as part of a programme, for example, Return to Education, Community Education, ITABE, DEIS family literacy programmes or Youthreach. NALA small organisation members can make one application to the fund. Large organisation members can make two applications.
The fund is in place to:
1. Actively support student development activities where students get a chance to meet other students, learn something new together – non direct tuition events. This could be visiting an art gallery, going to a play, a place of interest or trying something new together.
2. Enable NALA to gather the views and experiences of adults who are building their literacy and numeracy skills. This is a key part of NALA’s Strategic Plan 2014 -2016. It will also contribute to the SOLAS Further Education and Training Strategy by providing data on student issues. Student feedback is used to inform all of NALA’s work. Students taking part in activities must give feedback on one of the topic set out below by NALA. NALA then shares the student feedback internally in NALA, with SOLAS, ETBI, Learner Representatives and other key stakeholders.
Please note: The making of grants in 2015 under the Student Development Fund is dependent on NALA receiving SOLAS funding.
Please read the document attached before filling in an application form.
