1. Part-time Distance Learning Tutors
NALA is currently recruiting part-time Distance Learning Tutors to support adult learners over the telephone and online.
The National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) runs an adult literacy Distance Learning Service. The Service includes a Freephone tutor support line, the www.writeon.ie website and supports around 300 distance learners per year.
NALA is currently expanding its panel by recruiting part-time Distance Learning Tutors to support adult learners over the telephone and online.
All successful candidates will work from home over the phone and online, starting in April 2017.
You will need:
- at least 5 years' experience as an adult literacy tutor;
- to have completed adult literacy tutor training;
- to be able to support adult learners over the telephone and/or online;
- excellent ICT skills;
- excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills;
- excellent administration skills;
- a personal computer and broadband connection.
NALA will provide:
- Distance Learning Training;
- support from the Distance Learning Service Coordinator;
- a NALA work mobile phone.

As part of the recruitment process, there will be a timed ICT competency test. This test will be sent to you on Friday, 3 March and must be completed by Saturday, 4 March 2017. 2. Plain English Editor
The National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) is recruiting a Plain English Editor. This is a 12-month position on a fixed-term contract.
The primary function of the editor will be to edit plain English documents for a range of clients and to provide training to clients on NALA’s Plain English Guidelines. The editor will also be expected to develop the plain English service for NALA and provide other supports to the agency in terms of plain English. They will work closely with NALA’s Communications Manager and NALA’s Plain English Coordinator.
This is a varied and interesting role and it will provide a great opportunity for career development in the sector.
The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and communications skills, as well as strong IT skills, using appropriate desktop publishing and editing software.
