We need your help.

We work to support people with literacy and numeracy difficulties so that they can fully take part in society and get access to the education they need.

One in six Irish adults are at or below level 1 on a five-level literacy scale and would have difficulty reading medical instructions or filling out a form. Even more people have problems with basic maths and using the internet, massively impacting their ability to participate fully in social and civic life.

There is strength in numbers and already our 1,000 members have helped us increase public understanding of literacy and numeracy issues and to promote these as human rights.

All we ask of members is that they read our ezine, share what they learn with friends and family and give us feedback on our work.

It's free and takes just two minutes.

The National Adult Literacy Agency was set up by volunteers in 1980, and since then we have been a leading campaigning and lobbying force on adult literacy issues. We have been involved with tutor training, developing teaching materials, distance education services, policy making, research and campaigns to raise awareness of the causes, extent and responses to adult literacy difficulties in Ireland.
