The National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) submission to the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science new Action Plan for Apprenticeship for 2026 to 2030.

In this submission we called for a literacy focus in the action plan. Apprenticeship is a great opportunity for people to improve their general skills like literacy, numeracy and digital literacy while also learning for a specific career.

We have made 11 practical recommendations for how to:

• support apprentices with literacy needs to succeed
• make the apprenticeship system more literacy friendly
