What are the awards about?

Everyone benefits from clear information, written in plain English.

People understand what you are saying and companies save time and money by not having to clarify misunderstandings.

The National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) developed these awards to:

  • raise public awareness of the need for, and benefits of, plain English; and to
  • create a public preference for organisations that communicate in plain English.

The aims of the awards are to reward organisations that communicate clearly and to promote the use of plain English in all public information. There are five categories in this year’s Plain English Awards, including one that the public can enter. Four other categories are open to organisations. The awards are sponsored by leading law firm Mason Hayes & Curran.
