10.30am –  Welcome and opening remarks

-Chairperson: Margaret Hanrahan, Student, Tipperary Education and Training Board (ETB).

10.40am –  Creative writing: An innovative and engaging way of teaching and learning.

-Maurice Sammon, Adult Literacy Learner and Carol Doherty, Creative Writing Tutor, Waterford and Wexford ETB.

11.00am –  Inclusive learner identities, measurement of learning and literacy learning engagement.

-Bernie Grummell, Associate Professor, Department of Adult and Community Education, Maynooth University.

11.20am –  Strategies and approaches for teaching reading.

-Fionnaigh Connaughton, Tutor and Trainer, Dublin Adult Learning Centre (DALC).

11.45am – 1.00pm – Morning Workshops 

1.00pm – Lunch

2.00pm – 3.15pm – Afternoon workshops

 

 Workshops

– Morning Workshop: 11.45am – 1.00pm and Afternoon Workshop: 2.00pm – 3.15pm

–  There will be different workshop options in the morning and the afternoon. Each participants can attend 2 different workshops.

 

Morning workshops – 11.45am – 1.00pm:

(a) Empowerment through digital advocacy and activism: Creating content.

Facilitator: Pat Hoban, Adult Education Tutor, Tipperary ETB.

(b) Creating materials that develop digital literacy skills and encourage self-directed learning.

Facilitator: Mary-Claire Hally, Tutor and Synchronous Online Learning Coordinator, DALC.

(e) Taking away the fear of technology for learners and tutors.

Facilitator: Mark McGuigan, IT and ESOL tutor, Tipperary ETB.

 

Afternoon workshops – 2.00pm – 3.15pm:

General Terms
The Ashling Hotel is across the river from Heuston station. There is a small car park at the hotel, but it is often full. NALA can’t cover the parking costs for participants. The ‘Museum’ LUAS stop is a two minute walk from the hotel. There is some free parking in the Phoenix Park close to the zoo.
